Christmas Tree Dishcloth

This was a bit of an experimental pattern. I wanted to make a Christmas tree dishcloth (square ones are so boring) but didn't have the right colors. Since my dishes don't care, I used what I had and came out with this: Odd as it is, I think it's kind of cute. If you want a a Christmas tree dishcloth of your own, this is what you do....

Gauge 17st = 4” stockinette (sz. 9 needles) although gauge doesn’t matter too much

Yarn
 ball Sugar’n Cream Brand cotton yarn in raspberry (color A)
1 ball Sugar’n Cream Brand cotton yarn in black (color B)
For a more traditional tree, use green for color A and brown for color B

Notions 1 pair size 9 knitting needles Blunt Needle

Finished Size 7” high; 6.5” at widest point (a “small” dishcloth)


Knitting Code de-coded
CO = cast on
K = knit
P = purl
Kf&b = knit into the front and back of the stitch
sts = stitches
BO = bind off

Tree
With color A, CO 2 stitches
K all
Kf&b twice
K all
K1, Kf&b (2 times), K1 [ **K1, kf&b, k to last 2 sts, kf&b, k1 Next row: K all** (work sts between ** 3 times) K all BO2, k1, kf&b, k to end BO2, k1, kf&b, k to end K all ] Work sts between [ ] twice more
**K1, k f&b, k to last 2, kf&b, k1 K all** (work stitches between ** 3 times more)
BO all sts loosely

Trunk 
from bottom corner of tree, count in 10 sts from edge.
Starting here, pick up and knit 6 stitches with color B.
*K1, P1* for 6 rows
BO stitches in pattern

Ornaments 
Add “ornaments” where you’d like with French knots or embroidery using color B or another contrasting color.

Finishing 
Weave in ends
