A Rant...
Things like this:
And the piece that I REALLY really REALLY want is this:
I love this cardigan. I saw it in a store the other day with my sister and decided I must have one. The only problem is I can't seem to find a pattern for anything even similar. Instead, hours of searching for cardigan patterns has turned up things that look more like this:
I have one word for you: blech. Now, these cardigans might be fitting for their designers or women with different lifestyles than myself but they are not for me and they don't look anything like this:
or anything like any of the other pictures posted above. Where have the young, hip knitting designers gone? Are they hiding somewhere? Are they secretly knitting cute things and hoarding the patterns? Why can't I find patterns for the kinds of things I want to knit?
I suppose I could go buy the sweater I'm jonsing for. Afterall, it would save me a lot of time and would probably cost about as much as the raw yarn needed to knit it. But it's the principle of the thing. Knitters aren't supposed to (gasp!) buy machine-knit sweaters. Then the same thing happens as happened the last time I broke down and bought something I couldn't find a pattern for.....everyone asks "Wow, I love that. Did you knit it?" And then I sheepishly look at the ground and admit I bought it (and then kick myself as they walk away). No more, I say! NO MORE!
So for all of you who know that knitting is sexy and who know where to find all the cute patterns....will someone fill me in already? Please????

I am probably the wrong person to answer your rant... but... Have you seen Classic Knits (and Glamour Knits, which I don't like nearly as much, but has a cute pattern or two). Also Twinkle and Big City Knits have some cute more updated patterns. Right now I am drooling over Classic Knits - there are about 7 patterns that I would love to do!
ReplyDeleteI am totally the perfect person for helping you out. First, are you on Ravelry?! Get there now. Second, Stitch Diva and Kpixie carry some hot patterns. Good books: Sexy little Knits, Big City Knits, Knitting Lingerie Style, and that Annie Modesitt book (can't recall the name). Third, I bet you could knit that sexy sweater you are in love with. Have faith in yourself. Where did you see it? Go to the store, try it on, make notes about the size (take a tape measure into the dressing room with you), and the stitches. It looks like a simple ribbing. Knit a raglan like for Wicked, only leaving room for the plackets. Um...you should probably email me about this I'm going to rant myself. :)
ReplyDeleteI completely understand where you are coming from and believe I have carried on the exact same conversation. The sweater you are jonesing for would be amazingly simple to knit up. My answer for you is I got sick of seeing stuff in the stores I wanted and also knew I would never even come close to finding a pattern that even remotely resembled the hot lil number in the store. My answer was to go to the store with a camera, paper and pencil and write my own pattern right there in the store while examining the store sweater. I learned to do it at Stitches East last year. I took Leslye Solomon's class titled "Design Your Dream Sweater". Now I am in knitting heaven.

I adore phoenix bess patterns :) Her diva tunic has a similar neckline, maybe if you added sleaves or something? I'm such a begginer, i'm probably the worst person to ask. But she has really pretty designs, i think so at least.

ReplyDeleteActually, I lie. It would be best to knit it in pieces. Still, email.

ReplyDeleteYes. I like Phoenix's stuff, too. I did some test knitting for her a while ago and one of the things I go in exchange was the pattern for the diva tunic.
ReplyDeleteAnd Ravelry has since fixed my issues. Every knitter everywhere should be on Ravelry.
