I'm undergoing a bit of a renovation over here. I'm trying to tidy up and make my blog a more user friendly resource.
People who are not new to my blog will notice I have a new template now. I also have some tabbed pages up at the top that are new...About me, my Knitting Patterns and my Recipes. These are still a smidge clunky. For now you can see all my knitting patterns on Ravelry (the page linked to above is also a work in progress). I need to figure out a useful way to categorize my recipes, too. For now the link will go to my Bake Space recipes page. You might also notice shiny new features like a search box, RSS feed link and Twitter link.
One thing I am also experimenting with is truncating my posts. I thought quite a bit before making the leap in that direction. I am personally not a fan of truncated posts...especially when I am looking at blogs on my iphone. Having to hit a "Read More" button is just one more thing for me to do. But when reading some useful blogger conversations on Twitter this week it was pointed out that long, picture heavy posts can really bog down your landing page. If people don't see something that catches their eye right when they arrive, they'll leave. And if all they are looking at is one post, they are much less likely to have their eye caught. If they can see 4-5 different things when they land, though, chances of finding something they may want increases.
So I'm trying it out. I went back and truncated the last few posts and will try to remember to crop new posts that are more than a couple paragraphs long.
Let me know your thoughts. Are there things I can add to improve? Are any of my my links or graphics broken? Have any tips from your personal experience surviving blog renovations? Please feel free to share!
