Inspired by my cousin who always has the inside track on all things healthy and nutritious (and have I mentioned is stunningly beautiful? I'm sure there is a correlation.), I've decided I wanted to try juicing. I was generously given a second hand juicer the first owner had graduated from and we have been juicing crazy over here.
My favorite recipe so far goes about like this:
Apple, Carrot Ginger Sunrise
Ingredients:
- 2 organic apples
- 2 skinny carrots (or one large one)
- 1 wedge of lemon with peel
- 1 inch chunk of ginger
I'm still experimenting with combos I like. The particular juicer I have is good at juicing hard things like apples and carrots but not so good with soft things berries (I tried juicing strawberries the other day and it was ugly and totally knocked the machine off balance).
I've currently got half of a cantelope in the fridge I meant to juice but it was a little too cantelopey when I juiced the first half. I think I need a something good to add to it. I was thinking blueberries but I'm not sure my machine will handle that very well.
If you've tried juicing before, I'd love to hear what some of your favorite combos are! Or if you've got recipes that use the pulp, I'd love those, too. I've been just feeding the pulp to my worms so far but have heard it might bake well into muffins or soup.
Good job on juicing cousin! I bet you are enjoying the benefits.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a blog about juicing, per your request. I found myself talking a lot about the Norwalk... you might still have questions. Please let me know what else you'd like to see on my blog.
